OpenGrid Marketplace
The OpenGrid Marketplace was a combination of an application publishing
platform and a business networking tool. Any business with an account on the
Marketplace would be able to easily customize and publish chunks of pre-designed
business logic called "gridlets" that would automatically be viewable on a variety
of mobile devices. With gridlets as simple as online polls and as complex as hotel
reservations systems, this would allow businesses to easily take advantage of the
products and services provided in the system. A GridCenter would also be available
in which member businesses could network with one another.
My contributions to this project included collaborating with the lead engineer
to design the back-end platform, helping mold the syntax of the in-house scripting
language (similar to PHP), designing and implementing the user interface, creating
a mechanism to easily customize the application UI to reflect the branding of the
member company, and contributing to the design and implementation of specific
gridlets.
Sadly, as this project was preparing to go into public beta testing, the plug
was pulled by the Powers That Be (ie, indecisive investors) and the project was
permanently mothballed. *sigh*
