mobilePlanIt Conference Manager
The marketing material will tell you that mobilePlanIt is a software suite
catering to those who attend or host professional conferences. On the back end,
the product consists of a database that stores all of the exhibitor, track and
event information on the various conferences, a Java servlet that wraps the
appropriate information into XML based on the HTTP request, and a collection
of XSL style sheets that customize the content for display on various devices.
My primary contribution to the project was in creating the XSL style sheets
necessary to customize the application itself for display on standard browsers
(for laptops connecting on an 802.11 wireless network), Palm OS devices and
Pocket PC devices; creating the style sheets and servlet commands necessary
to customize the look and feel of the download pages to match that of the
sponsoring conference's site; and helping to build the administration tool
that would allow conference organizers to manage their own content. I also
acted as the liaison between the Engineering and User Experience departments,
to make sure that the API and XML schemas met the needs of all parties.
